If you only do one thing for your professional development this year then attending #APLIC18 is a great choice.
The Asia-Pacific Library and Information Conference 2018 is the first joint conference between Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa (LIANZA), and Library Association of Singapore (LAS). A truly international conference that has attracted speakers from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Fiji, America and more.
This conference features three days jam-packed full of keynotes, panels, papers, lightning talks and posters. Take the time to check out the keynote speakers and read the program online, it’s never too early to plan your experience! Make sure you plan to attend Concurrent Session 3, Tuesday 31st July, 12.20pm-12.45pm to hear my lightning talk, Connecting with the LGBT+ community: diversity and inclusion at City of Gold Coast Libraries.
If you can afford to stretch your time and budget then book into a pre-conference workshop. This is really the only chance within the conference you will have to delve deeply within a topic, gets hands on and learn some new skills to take back to your workplace. I’ve booked into the full day workshop, Building an engagement toolkit: How you can understand your customers, evaluate your programs and services and tell stories of your impact, facilitated by Dr Kate Davis and Dr Elham Sayyad Abdi. I know both of these awesome ladies but I have never done one of their workshops so I am really looking forwarded to spending the day learning from them!
Now let’s talk networking! #APLIC18 is going to be the biggest LIS conference many of us will ever attend. You will have the chance to network with not only the finest of Australian professionals but our international colleagues as well. Use this opportunity to make connections, ask questions and learn from others. The entire conference is a networking event but if you want to network whilst eating great food then make sure you attend one of the Taste of Gold Coast dinners and the Wanderlust conference dinner.
Now if that isn’t enough to convince you to register right now then how about a trip to the beautiful Gold Coast! We have sun, we have surf, we have beaches, we have hinterland, we have great coffee, we have amazing food, we have fantastic shopping and we have the friendliest locals you will find on the planet! Stay tuned to my blog as I will be sharing the best of the Gold Coast over the next few months to make your visit is the best it can be!
Are you ready? Register here and join me at #APLIC18! Can you really afford to miss out of this once in a lifetime opportunity?
